Free and Open is the bees knees!

A Computers Like Portland event.
until (add to your google calendar) @ NEW LIBRARY! BELMONT Library, Community Room 1A (directions)
Maybe you've thought to yourself, "the web used to be so cool," or "social media is such a drag". Good news, the Cool Web never went away!
At the Web Surfing Party, we find the Cool, the Human, the Weird out there, together, in person, side-by-side. We share the laughs, the surprises, the knowledge. Come party and see for yourself!
Pop in any time, for 5 minutes, or an hour, or three. Play one little game or spend the whole time exploring.
We surf (and party!) in many different ways. We often pair up, and switch pairs every so often. Then maybe we "mob" together as a group on the big beautiful screen (thank you Portland library renovations). We take breaks to look away from the screen and towards the world around us.
You don't need to bring anything, just show up for yourself and your community. If you want to, you can bring your laptop and external keyboard and mouse (bluetooth or wired) are nice to have.
Maybe as you read the above you thought, "You just surf the web? Seriously?" Exactly! Web surfing is silly, mundane, and banal, sure. But we do it together, in person.
When you sit down next to a stranger or a friend to explore open, free websites built by human hands, you directly combat the fascist forces which would prefer we stayed isolated and locked into echo chambers.
Technology can connect us, but the version we get at home or on our phone is broken. We continue this event month after month because we feel it's different, it's special, and it's real connection — connection to each other and The World Wide Web.
So, come play a Flash game. Or click around a web ring. Dream of a future where this doesn't feel so weird, and make that future a reality with us.
You Deserve To Be On The Web!

Free And Open Web For All!
Participants must follow all of the library rules and we ask that everyone follow the IndieWeb Code of Conduct. This is not an IndieWeb event, they're just great guidelines for a welcoming, creative environment.
